Erick Thohir Remodels Telkom & Telkomsel, This is the New Form
Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir revealed the new forms of Telkom and Telkomsel after the reshuffle. The reshuffle was carried out because he assessed that the telecommunications industry, such as telephone and SMS, could no longer support the company's future business.
"Therefore, when I criticized, the President Director of Telkom (Rierek Adriansyah) and his staff agreed on me changing the business model, whose name is Telkom to B2B (business-to-business), will focus on towers, focus on fiber optic data infrastructure, data center, cloud, and 5G," explained Erick in the Scientific Oration 'Globalization and Digitalization: Post-Pandemic BUMN Strategy', Saturday (27/11/2021). In preparing Telkomsel as a B2C service, Erick considered technological disruption, namely the proliferation of entertainment in digital technology, such as shows, games, and so on imported from abroad. "Telkomsel and Telkom provide that now. We position Telkomsel as an aggregator for local content, games. local, local creators, fintech, health tech, edutech," he said.
"Even in mid-December, the President will launch the Merah Putih Fund, which is supported by Telkom and Telkomsel to fund Indonesian startups," he continued.
Erick explained that the startup companies that will be funded by the Merah Putih Fund are startups launched in Indonesia, with Indonesian founders and company operations. After that, startups are allowed to go public abroad.
"Because if not now, many of our startup companies have moved to Singapore, where they have been funded. That's where we intervene as SOEs to remind future creators of Indonesia to be more nationalistic. Because we are big because of our market," said Erick.
