Jokowi Inaugurates the Construction of an International Hospital in Denpasar
President Joko Widodo will attend the groundbreaking of the Bali International Hospital in Denpasar. He did this in a series of work to the two provinces today, Monday (27/12).
Jokowi and several officials have flown from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, since 07.00 WIB. They will visit the Sanur Tourism Area in Denpasar City.
"There, President Jokowi is scheduled to do the groundbreaking or groundbreaking of the Bali International Hospital," quoted from a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Monday (27/12). The former mayor of Solo will leave for Southeast Sulawesi after completing activities in Bali. He will take off from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Haluoleo Air Force Base, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province.
"In Southeast Sulawesi, the President is scheduled to visit manufacturers. During this working visit, Jokowi will be accompanied by the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. He will also be accompanied by several Palace officials, including the Commander of Paspampres Major General TNI Tri Budi Utomo and Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono.
The construction of the Bali International Hospital has officially started. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said the existence of the international hospital would help Bali have new tourism potential.
Marked by the laying of the first stone or groundbreaking by President Joko Widodo, the hospital which stands on an area of 41.3 hectares is targeted for completion in 2023 for phase I construction.
Erick Thohir sees that so far the domestic potential for health tourism is very high.
"Almost 2 million people go abroad for treatment (every year). Foreign exchange out a lot. Therefore, we are consolidating hospitals so that apart from high standards, this function also helps Bali to have new tourism in the health sector," said Erick at the inauguration of the Bali International Hospital which was broadcast via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, December 27, 2021.
In addition to encouraging tourism potential, the construction of an international-scale hospital will increase the entry of domestic investment in the health sector. The construction of the hospital was in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic from the United States.
Erick said the health ecosystem was the key to economic resilience after the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the Ministry has consolidated state-owned companies operating in the medical field in one health cluster.
"This is our part in forming an ecosystem to strengthen independence in the health sector," said Erick.
Bali International Hospital is located in the Sanur Tourism Area, Denpasar. This hospital will be built in four phases from 2021 to 2032. The first phase of construction is targeted for completion in 2023.
Meanwhile, for the second phase, the construction of the health center includes the Bali Beach Hotel covering an area of 3.1 hectares; Bung Karno Convention Center covering an area of 2.1 hectares; parking hub which is divided into three areas, respectively 1.1 hectares, 0.9 hectares, and 0.3 hectares. Then Bali Beach Garden with an area of 2.7 hectares; 3-4 star hotel 1.7 hectares; healthcare 4 1.1 hectares. The stage is expected to be completed in 2026.
The third phase, which is targeted for completion in 2029, will include the construction of Healthcare 3 covering an area of 2.5 hectares; Bali Beach Resort covering an area of 5.2 hectares, and Healthcare 6 covering an area of 1.2 hectares. The fourth phase, which will be completed in 2032, will include the construction of a 2.7-hectare Bali Beach Garden, 1.7-hectare 3-4 star hotel area; 1.1 hectares of commercial area, and 1.4 hectares of Healthcare 5.
Jokowi, who was present at the groundbreaking ceremony, hoped that the Indonesian people would no longer seek treatment abroad. "We hope that later Sanur will become a healthy SEZ and we hope that it will no longer exist. If this happens, our people, our people, will no longer go abroad to get health services," said Jokowi.
Jokowi said two million Indonesians every year go abroad for treatment with destinations from Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, to the United States. The state, he said, lost Rp. 97 trillion because of it. Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, revealed Indonesia's plan to build a world-class hospital. One of them is in Sanur, Bali.
